gasp
(Philly Fringe Festival
September 2007)

In gasp, Perpetual Mvmt<>Snd uses the performers' bodies as points of genesis: dancers are accompanied by their own breath manipulated by electronic musicians Bilwa and Mikronesia, while their bodies metamorphose via live video projection by John Phillips. Movement created by Emily Sweeney in collaboration with dancers Rebecca Patek, Daniele Strawmyre, Zornitsa Stoyanova, and Christina Zani.

Watch video excerpts:

gasp was performed as part of "Fresh Juice," a shared evening of dance, video, and multimedia performance. Presented by Mascher Space Coop in Kensington, it featured the work of six Mascher resident artists. Dubbed the “next collective art space” in 2007 by Philadelphia Weekly in their Next Philadelphia issue, Mascher Space Coop members Meg Foley, Erin Foreman-Murray, Makoto Hirano, Perpetual Mvmt<>Snd, Zornitsa Stoyanova, and Christina Zani collaborated to produce fresh works, fresh ideas, fresh (as in recently arrived; just come) juice (essence, strength, or vitality).

The Rashomon Effect III
(March 2007)

The Rashomon Effect is an ongoing investigation of an improvised score based on the storytelling method employed in Akira Kurosawa's 1950 film Rashomôn.

The term "Rashomon effect" refers to the effect of subjectivity on recollection, by which observers of an event are able to produce substantially different but equally plausible accounts of it. In this installment, 16 performers inhabit a score in which sound and movement themes are introduced and revisited by each performer, morphing and expanding as memories do with each pass around the circle.
